Issue Date: 1998
Abstract: In the present study, various methods for passive cooling have been discussed. Extensive work have been carried out previously as far as heating aspect of passive comfort system is concerned. The cooling aspect of passive method has not got much attention. In this study, analysis of coupling two passive cooling concepts to get the comfort in building in summer has been done. Solar chimney is used to create the natural ventilation and underground tunnel is used to cool the ambient air to lowered temperature before entering the room. Solar chimney with storage wall is used to create day and night ventilation. For solar chimney which works only in good sunshine hours, steady state analysis has been done and for day and night cycle solar chimney, time dependent analysis have been performed. An economic comparison of proposed system with the conventional system is also presented. It is concluded that • earth air tunnel coupled with day and night cycle solar chimney, cooled down ambient air to lower temperature and provide comfort. The system is also economically suited
