Title: EFFECT OF MOULDING MATERIALS ON THE QUALITY OF INVESTMENT CASTINGS
Authors: Musstafa, Anan Esam
Keywords: MECHANICAL INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING;MOULDING MATERIALS;INVESTMENT CASTINGS;SURFACE FINISH
Issue Date: 1998
Abstract: The ultimate aim of a foundry engineer is to produce a defect free and dimensionally accurate casting having a very good surface finish. Ideally a casting should not need any machining at all. However, Investment Casting process remains a very-successful method of producing extremely-accurate castings with a high standard of surface finish. this investigation was conducted to study the influence of various mould materials on the quality of Al -7% Si alloy investment castings. Six types of mould materials have been used and their effect on Al-7% Si alloy castings has been studied keeping other parameters constant. The characteristics for comparing the effect of variables were dimensional accuracy, surface finish, soundness, tensile strength properties, impact strength and hardness
