Abstract: The study of flow characteristics behind surface mounted rib tarbuletors inside a rectangular duct have been studied using particle image velocimetry technique. The objective behind this study is to understand the flow structure responsible for heat transfer or heat mixing enhancement. The aspect ratio of rectangular duct is 1:4. Reynolds number is taken 11000 and 22000 on the basis of hydraulic diameter of the duct. Chamfered solid ribs having chamfering angle 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 degrees are used in this study to investigate the flow structures and to give the comparable result of all. The results obtained show strong effect of chamfering the rib on flow structure. Investigation of flow field in case of array of ribs with zero and 20 degree have been also. done. It has been seen in result that 15 degree chamfered rib shows much more favourable result than other.
