Issue Date: 1996
Abstract: In the present work Computer Aided Process Planning (CAPP) for prismatic parts has been performed through the development of two separate modules. In the first part calculation of machining parameters for multi pass machining in case of Shaping and Milling (peripheral and face milling) has been done. Thus a non-linear, constrained, multivariable (in three variables), problem was formed and solved using Geometric Programming approach In the second part the selection of machining processes, , machine tools, cutting tools and holding devices, from available ones, for given feature is done using data retrieval approach. The data base has been organized in tree form using linked data structures. Data retrieval is based on preference and availability of a device for particular feature. The aforesaid optimization problem has zero degree of difficulty. An analytical solution has, also, been formulated thus providing expressions for minimum cost per component and corresponding variables of speed, feed and depth
