The world around us is shrinking. People are now connected to each other via all sorts of innovative and previously unimagined networks. The devices which previously were enormous in size are now coming in sizes which can be put on people's hands. The advancement in the field of technology which the world has seen in last few decades is much greater than what has been achieved in the last -few centuries. Embedded technology is an example of one such field which has helped scientists and engineers to reduce the size of devices and yet increase their performance by many folds. Embedded technology uses the concept that to perform big and complex job, divide it into smaller subtasks and handle each one separately. These subtasks are handled by small specific purpose devices called embedded devices. Embedded technology has now entered in almost all the fields which surround us. This technology is used in electronics industry, consumer products etc. The real thing which makes embedded devices work is the specific purpose application which brings the device to life, which makes it suitable for a specific purpose. This report discusses one such specific purpose application called Mobilinx, which means `Mobile application in x' where x stands for any portable mobile device. This application allows field engineers to maintain, update the data, related to elevators as well as escalators. Mobilinx application also allows the field engineers to contact and synchronize data with the central server via the telephone network or through radio modem. The report further discusses the technical difficulties and the porting issues which were faced while porting the application on the handheld pc, which itself is an example of embedded device. The mobilinx application is designed for windows-CE based mobile devices and the programming language used is embedded visual basic.en_US
