In this investigation the effect of different pulse parameters such as pulse frequency, pulse duration and mean current on various weld characteristics such as bead height, bead width, penetration, dilution, chemical composition, hardness of weld and HAZ, microstructure of weld and HAZ, width of HAZ and porosity content of the weld are studied by bead-on-plate (structural steel) deposit under pulse current GMAW process carried out by using a 1.2 mm diameter basic flux cored wire. Bead on plate deposit were also produced by using conventional continuous current GMAW process and the characteristics of weld deposit as said above are compared to those observed under the pulse current GMAW process. During pulse current welding the effect of arc voltage and welding speed on the characteristics of weld deposit as mentioned above were also studied. Finally, after considering all the results, an effort has been made to indicate the pulse parameters suitable for an acceptable weld depositen_US
