IMPLEMENTATION OF TERMINAL RESERVATION SYSTEM IN NCF

Abstract

The Terminal Reservation System is implemented in the Computer Centre - New Computational Facilities (NCF). The purpose of the system is to help the users to book terminal in advance and save them from unnecessary queuing and uncertainity to get a terminal after they walk in the NCF to work on the system. The software package also helps the administrative staff of NCF in proper management and distribution of terminals among the users. The package has been implemented on the TATA ELEXI Power series 3200, IRIX Operating System using "C" language. The software package developed is thoroughly interactive and menu driven. In pursuing the above objectives, the major facilities provided by the system are - initialization'of database, reservation of terminal, retrieval of general information about user, terminal status and holidays, updation of data files, on-line check of user reservation and reservation chart generation. The technique involved in the design and implementation of database system uses the features of the "C" language to emulate the data definition and data manipulation languages of the system. It also uses the facilities provided by the curses) library functions for the screen management and cursor movement to give the user a' better interface at the (iv) terminal. This package uses high level functions to deal with operations on files and also uses other system utilities. The information can be obtained both in summarized and detailed form, either as hard copy or on the terminal at the press of a key.
