Issue Date: 1991
Abstract: Resource sharing is an important aspect of Local Area Network. Resources includes software, like programs and data, accessed remotely across the network, and hardware which includes peripheral devices like printers and hard disk. A local area network allows a group of personal computers to share devices that are too expensive to be used by a single person. The emphasis in this dissertation is towards sharing a hard disk, a hardware resource, among a network of personal computers. Hence a file server is implemented which acts as a centralise file store for all other users in the network. The network used is a low cost laboratory ring network of IBM PC's and its compatible. Remote execution of DOS commands and file transfer services between a file server and a user is supported.
