dc.description.abstractThe basic Air-Conditioning load calculations involve adding together the various components of space heat gain to get an instantaneous total rate of space cooling load. Heating load is also, calculated in same manner. [2] The system design and equipment selection is primarily based on peak load conditions. If involves fan system selection, duct piping design and central equipment plant selection. Poor performance and poor air conditioning system are the results when peak load is the only consideration. So HVAC system design methods must be continually updated and utilization of current numerical techniques and analysis using computers is of utmost importance. [11,8] Various public domain softwares are available and being continually updated for providing the users with better versions. Chapter 3 is a discussion on some of the available softwares in international market mainly in U.S.A. The use of one such software for calculating air-conditioning load and system design of a medium size building is done in this work. This software, "A Simplified Energy Analysis Method version 2 (ASEAM2) is a modified bin method. The features of this software are discussed in Chapter 4 and the methodology which this software uses for calculating the air-conditioning load vi ) is discribed in Chapter alongwith a brief discription of Modified Bin Method. For the case study, a model office building was selected in Roorkee and the input data required for running this software (ASEAM2) was given and is discussed in Chapter 5. It gives a brief discussion on all the data required to be given as input. Chapter 6 is "Results and Comparison" in which is discussed the output results given by ASEAM2 for the case study input data described in Chapter S. The doad reports are compared with ASHRAE's hand calculation. This Chapter also gives a discussion on how ASEAM2 can be applied for system design and optimization which involves choosing various systems for building and getting the most economical oneen_US
