Authors: Chandra, Brijesh
Keywords: ELECTRONICS AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING;MULTIPROCESSOR SYSTEMS;PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS;SMPL
Issue Date: 1991
Abstract: This dissertation attempts to explore the effect of nonexponential memory service times on the processing efficiency of the tightly coupled multiprocessor system. The memory service time is significant in determining the processing efficiency of a multiprocessing system. Till now, in all the performance analyses, the memory service time was considered as only exponentially distributed. In this dissertation, the effect of memory service time being hypoexponentially as well as hyperexponentially is studied. Chapter I first discusses the evolution of multiprocessor systems and then classifies various types of multiprocessor systems. It then gives the attributes of performance followed by the domain of the problem. Chapter 11 discusses the characteristics. and operation of the multiprocessor systems from the viewpoint of performance. It details the performance parameters followed by hypoexponential and hyperexponential distributions. Chapter III is about the modeling of the multiprocessor systems using queueing concept. This chapter gives the details of how the model has been implemented in the SMPL environment. Chapters IV and V give the results and their significance besides future scope of this work.
