The installation of flexible Manufacturing System represents a large capital investment. To make the most efficient utilization of this investment, effective scheduling of Flexible Manufacturing System is vital. In the Present Work, scheduling program has been developed. The program generates the sequence of jobs and the starting and finishing time for each operation of each job such that the total idle time of the different work stations is minimum. This program is capable of: A. Generating schedules for the jobs, with respect to different criteria: FCFS - FIRST COME FIRST SERVED SPT - SHORTEST PROCESSING TIME LPT - LARGEST PROCESSING TIME MAD - MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE DELAY B. Generating schedules for the operations of each job for two cases: (i) When there is flexible sequence of operations. (ii) When there is inflexible sequence of operations. C. Finding out the percentage utilization of each work station for the both cases and under different criteria. D. Finding in-process waiting time of each job. E. Finding total production time for the job lot. The final selection of schedule to be followed actually would depend upon the management's criteria, like % uti~ization (iv) of a particular Work-Stati-rn, total processing time of job lot etc. Based on the criteria selected any of the schedules obtained with respect to dispatching. criteria like FCFS, SPT etc. can be useden_US
