dc.description.abstractIn this -thesis experimental investigations have been made to study the feasibility and economical. aspects of narrow gap welding technique. A nozzle has been designed and fabricated to suit the narrow gap. Welding is carried out on 100 mm thick M.S.plates using two types of fluxes: neutral and fully basic. Mechanical and microstructural examinations have been carried out to study the soundness of the weld deposit and base metal. The result shows that fully basic flux provides better mechanical properties. The results confirmed that narrow gap welding bffers significant savings in consumable s,energy and labour cost. The results obtained from the tests shows that narrow gap submerged arc welding is better than conventional technique in the fabrication of thick sectionsen_US
