The present investigation has been carried out with the aim to establish the optimum levels of the process variables i.e. plate temperature, curing time and die temperature and to study the effect of the shell--lining parameters, on the mechanical properties of the castings. The resin coated sand was injected inside the gap between the pattern and the dies of different contours i.e. flat, stepped, Oval and tapered dies, which gave different shape and thickness to the shell mould wall and caused variation in the cop king rate of the molten metal after it was poured inside the mould cavity. The tests were carried out on spherioidal. graphite iron and final result was, castings with different hardness at various sections depending upon the contours and thickness of the shell. Correlations were made to obtain a relationship between hardness as a function of shell thicknessen_US
