The number of advantages have been claimed for V-Process in comparison to green sand moulding. The future of any new casting process depends upon the quality and cost of product. One of the factors governing the quality of castings is the dimensional accuracy. There are two aspects of dimensional accuracy - first the deviation of casting dimension from pattern dimension, and second the dimensional variability. Both these are found to be significantly influenced by moulding sand variables. Two mathematical models viz-:, 'Regression Model' and 'Analytical Model' have been proposed to estimate the pattern size so that the castings may be produced close to the design size. The dimensional variability of the V--Process has been found to be + 9 mm/m for Aluminium-alloys which is much better than - 30 mm/m obtainable by green sand mould-ing. Also the behaviour of moulding sand under vacuum has been studied to explore the interrelationship with the dimensional accuracy. Two factors - 'my' coefficient of volume change and permeability index have been suggested as the measure of sand control in V-Processen_US
