Issue Date: 1970
Abstract: According to Cameron and Wood, the extent of positive pressure film obtained, considering pressure and pressure derive tive both zero at the txailing edge of the positive film, is maxifrum. Sinhasen obtained the solution of Reynolds Eclu ation in general form using homogeneous boundary conditions. In the present work boundaries of the maximum positive pressure film Are established by optimization technique. The results such as Sun ierfeld No., coeffid ant of fretion variable obtained for full and partial are bearing by this method agree favourably with the existing data. Magnitude of slope at the end of the positive pressure film show that the boundary condition 8p/ax being zero is true only for small eccentricity ratios and not for large values of eccentri ity ratio. The experimental set-up designed to see the extant of film visually gave results whicho.are verymuch different from vbx the theorat.;cal ones because of -«Aof factors such as surface finish, thermal di sto rsion, in accu rate measurement g,, d e£i ection of parts etc
