Issue Date: 1970
Abstract: A mathematical analysis in a general form has been worked out to determine the circumferential strains/ stress distribution on the surface of a cylindrical shell with arbitrary internal loading and supported externally at three points located symmetrically. An experimental set up was prepared with a ring constrained by three symmetrically paced knife-edge rigid supports and an arrangement for radial knife-edge loading from inside. Experi-mental results for arbitrary loading have been compared with those analytically predicted. An algorithim to determine the stress distribution for continuous internal loading has also been worked out
