dc.description.abstractThe argument between production and inspection or supplier and purchaser regarding surface finishes on thachined parts often is not very easily resolved. Surface finishes will vary from one spot to another even if taken in the same direction relative to machining marks. A change in direction of the stylus of the measuring instrument in relation to tool marks on the surface will give diffeent readings and, within limits, could cover almost any particular surface finish requir ments that the specifications may demand. This work treats important factors involved' and presents an analysis of differen in surface finish, as encountered on a cylindrical ground surfa and measured w-ith an instrument known as stylus, Tests on cylindrical grinding were carried out under fix machining conditions in order to determine the relationship between the surface finish and table feed for three depth of cu Results are given in the form of graphs with profilomete readinf;s plotted against the table feed. Theoritical curves wi experimental dispersions are also shown. The directions of maximum and minimum surface finish readings at any point of the test-piece surface Rinink has been analysed. Recommendations have also been given for improved pro of obtaining good finishes.en_US
