Abstract: In the field of stainless steel making, Argon-Oxygen decarborisation (A.O.D.) process is well known. Chromium is a vital element in stainless steel, particularly at low carbon level and hence its recovery -during A.O.D. process is very important. Thermodynamic aspects of chromium reaction in A.O.D. process play an important role to. set the ultimate achievable limits. The effect of different thermodynamic variables are analysed and we found a set of equations considering the material balance. Hence, by solving these equations simultaneously we reach to a thermodynamic model for A.O.D. process by which we estimate composition and temperature of the melt at different time. This thermodynamic model optimise the A.O.D. process in respect of transfer of chromium
