Issue Date: 1994
Abstract: Applications of Pressure Vessels in India are mainly confined to storage of gases and liquids under pressure. However, development of pressure vessel as a forming equipment has not been so far carried out in India and therefore practically no technical expertise exists for its manufacturing. The present report is an attempt to design and develop pressure vessel as a forming equipment for ironing stainless steel tubes and iso-static pressing of powders. The broad parameters pertain to ultra high pressure range namely 600 MPa. Since the dimensions of the vessel are relatively smaller, the simplest design strategy involving two-layer cylindrical components has been employed. The design also involves material selection, fabrication stages including heat treatment, safety consideration and accessories including proprietary items necessary for efficient working of the equipment. Computational program for evaluation of design parameters has also been developed so that vessels of other dimensions from the one attempted herewith can also be taken up if required.
