The rapid depletion of conventional energy sources and the increasing concern of greenhouse effects have motivated the world towards exploring the use of non-conventional and renewable energy resources. Some of the renewable energy sources such as wind a:n.i mini-hydro are usually located in remote areas where the extension of grid sucpl) s either costly or not possible. Such energy sources can easily be used to dive prime movers of small power plants. These plants can operate in stand-alone mode and supply power to local communities. Induction generators are being used in remote areas to generate electrical power from wind or mini-hydro turbines because of their many advantageous features over the synchronous generators. This report focuses on steady state analysis of three phase self-excited induction generator (SEIG) considering effect of iron loss. In induction generator, iron loss is a possible source of performance deterioration. Generally, iron losses in induction generator have been neglected by many researchers in their analyses, hence, this report aims to evaluate and analyze the steady state performance of an induction generator taking iron losses into account. For this purpose, various tests have been conducted in the laboratory to determine the different parameters of induction generator and then the equivalent circuit of induction generator has been solved using Loop impedance method. Also the performance of induction generator has been analyzed under different operating conditions for both the cases-without iron losses and with iron lossesen_US
