Abstract: Single source based generation has been used for electrification of remote areas from past few decades. Keeping in mind Potential of renewable energy resources, nowadays hybrid generation is being paid significant attention in many countries. Integrated renewable energy system (IRES) and hybrid energy system concepts are developed to obtain the better resource utilization, optimal reliability and low dependability on non-renewable energy resources. To fulfill the demand of off grid consumer, it is essential to design a network which could be able to meet consumers demand at affordable rate. This network for off grid region having similar features as smart grid can be called as smart off grid energy system. Smart Off-Grid Energy System involves Smart Generation, Smart Distribution and Smart utilization. This dissertation report focuses on design aspect of smart generation and smart utilization. In smart generation, sizing, costing, scheduling operation strategy of wind-diesel and battery storage (WDBS) based hybrid energy system is performed. Accurate wind speed forecasting is the key point for effective scheduling of WDBS system and can be estimated by mixed least square and discrete Fourier time series method. Another main point for successful operation of WDBS system is the optimized sizing, costing and scheduling operation strategy formulation for the overall WDBS system. A hardware model is also developed for smart utilization and distribution management system. Tie line switches for load management at generation side along with wireless load shedding alarm system near consumer side are involved in the model based on power system status of Utility. Besides these power System status indication system and spot price indicator is also incorporated in the model
