Title: ENHANCING USER ENGAGEMENT OF FINANCIAL APPLICATION DESIGNED FOR YOUNG INDIANS BY SOCIAL MEDIA INTEGRATION AND GAMIFICATION
Authors: Dhiman, Himanshu
Abstract: There is a scope for the intervention of digital product design and innovation in
improvising the financial habit of the younger generation through saving. The purpose
of this research is to investigate the current financial behaviour of young Indians and
identify the challenges they face in managing their finances. The study then proposes a
design solution that leverages social features to motivate and encourage users to save
money and improve their financial well-being.
The domain of financial wellness is an important and relevant area of study, particularly
in the context of young Indians. Effective financial management is critical for individuals
and families to achieve financial stability, security, and long-term financial goals.
Unfortunately, many young Indians face challenges in managing their finances and
saving money due to a lack of financial education, limited income, and peer pressure to
spend.
The specific focus of this thesis is on designing a social-first financial wellness
application. The decision to focus on social features is based on the growing popularity
of social media and the potential for social connections and peer influence to impact
financial behaviour. By leveraging social features such as social savings goals and
challenges, the application aims to motivate and encourage users to save money and
improve their financial well-being.
The design of the application involves multiple domains, including user experience
design, financial management, and technology development. User experience design is
critical to ensure that the application is intuitive, user-friendly, and engaging for young
users. Financial management expertise is necessary to develop effective saving
strategies and personalised financial advice for users. Technology development is
essential to create a functional and reliable application that can be easily accessed by
users on their smartphones.

Title: EXPLORATORY ANALYSIS OF INNOVATION ECOSYSTEMS IN INDIAN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTES
Authors: Thorat, Niraj
Abstract: Promoting innovation is crucial for societal progress and economic development in the ever-changing Indian Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) environment. This study aims to analyse the complex innovation ecosystems within Indian higher education institutions. Using data from the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) reports for 2020-2021, the study examines the various complex elements that make up these ecosystems in the top 10 institutes. The methodology entails a thorough analysis of multiple lists that include departments, academic programmes, innovation clubs, collaboration initiatives, and other elements that represent the various aspects of innovation within higher education institutions (HEIs). The analysis seeks to identify the key success factors that lead to the innovation capabilities of the top-ranked institutions, providing valuable insights into the specific strengths and challenges of the Indian context. The main goals of the project are to determine the crucial factors that influence innovation outcomes, analyse the relationship between these factors, and establish connections between innovation ecosystems and the resulting innovation outputs. This study aims to investigate the main factors that contribute to the success of certain Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in innovation, as well as provide recommendations for improving innovation outputs in other HEIs. This study aims to offer strategic recommendations for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) by taking a comprehensive view of innovation ecosystems. The goal is to establish a roadmap that can enhance innovation, foster collaborations, and facilitate commercialization. This preliminary analysis will not only reveal the present condition of innovation in the academic field but also establish the foundation for future actions, suggestions for policies, and joint efforts aimed at advancing Indian Higher Education Institutions to the forefront of global innovation.”

PRODUCT INNOVATION IN LOW RESOURCE CONTEXT OF INDIAN HOUSEHOLDS

Title: PRODUCT INNOVATION IN LOW RESOURCE CONTEXT OF INDIAN HOUSEHOLDS
Authors: Sethi, Saloni
Abstract: In rural regions, the lives of women have been overlooked. Within the context of rural living, a woman's
daily regimen usually commences during the early hours of the morning and includes activities such as
personal grooming, culinary preparations, and the provision of meals for her family. Subsequently
finishing daily chores involves feeding the cattle, fetching water, house cleaning, laundry, and
participating in irrigation work. Despite carrying out these duties with a cheerful disposition, the woman
faces challenges in accessing basic amenities, she encounters financial constraints and occasionally relies
on a makeshift approach to address such limitations. Existing literature shows that Indian women in rural
areas from low socio-economic classes spend an average of 7.2 hours a day performing daily chores. This
physical and exhaustive work takes a toll on women’s physical and mental health. As per a study
conducted by the Indian Human Development Survey in 2012, women dedicate 323 minutes per week
compared to men's 155 minutes for fetching water, with participation rates of 94.8% for women and 70%
for men. Similarly, in collecting firewood, women invest 352 minutes per week in contrast to men's 133
minutes, with participation rates of 40.7% for women and 25% for men. Despite existing rural
innovations and numerous government programs, these women lack awareness of these resources, and as
a result, persist in living under adverse conditions. This research aims to study the daily routine of women
in rural areas within the low socio-economic class in the household sector. The investigation employs a
qualitative approach, drawing on in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and ethnographic
observations conducted in selected low-resource communities in Roorkee and Rohtak cities, India. The
focus is on understanding how these women allocate their daily activities and the impact of everyday
products on their lives. The findings were analyzed based on the classification and mapping of the
products to identify gaps in the potential design intervention (utility, functionality, affordability,
accessibility, and cultural influence). The study proposes design and innovation briefs to address these
gaps, emphasizing the need for inclusive, frugal, and cultural innovations that empower rural women. As
a way forward, future research should focus on collaborative efforts between local communities,
policymakers, designers, professionals, and innovators, ensuring the development and dissemination of
gender-sensitive innovation.
