Reviving the Lost: Memory and Nostalgia in Ngugi wa Thiong'o's Select Literary Writings

Title: Reviving the Lost: Memory and Nostalgia in Ngugi wa Thiong'o's Select Literary Writings
Authors: Deepa
Abstract: Memory is a tool to peep into the present and the past, between time and space. It is the base of our dreams. Memory with all its subtlety nurtured and recollected the direct experience of individuals. Which causes memory to communicate experience and history, consequently the notion of memory is not personal / simple, rather it becomes extraordinarily complex. In postcolonial literature we raise the question: What is Memory? Is it a remembrance or reflection and imagination? Is it the battleground we contest in struggles for dominance - of peoples, ideas, and politics? Pierre Vidal Naquet in “Assassins of Memory Essays in the Denial of the Holocaust” addresses many of the arguments and prejudices embodied in the personal experience and the memory of those who were affected. Philosophers, critics, Literature, poets, novelists all have particular concepts of memory. Postcolonial writers revisit these experiences and form narratives of identity.
The concept of Mnemosyne, or memory, was anthropomorphised by the classics (Greeks and Romans) as the mother of wisdom and the daughter of ignorance. Philippe Aries, who led the way in studying memorials, commemorates it "History deals with the horizon between the known and the unknown, It is memory that lures us to this horizon. Even the widest horizon of our knowledge is overwhelmed by the mysteries of what lies beyond" (qtd. in Hutton 168). Memory as interlinked with nostalgia creates spaces for it, As Boym (2001) calls it “Nostalgia is a sentimentality for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations, the longing for home (nostos), nostalgia is defined as the longing for a home that no longer exists”. (OED).

Global Financial Crisis vis-à-vis NPL Crisis: Impacts on Efficiency of Indian Banking Industry

Title: Global Financial Crisis vis-à-vis NPL Crisis: Impacts on Efficiency of Indian Banking Industry
Authors: Saha, Soumik Kumar
Abstract: The study aims to assess the impact of both the global financial crisis (2007 to 2009) and the
non-performing loan (NPL) boom (2013 to 2017) on bank efficiency in India. The study also
looks into the evolution of efficiency before the NPL boom (2009 to 2013) and during the
NPL boom (2013 to 2017). For this purpose, the study calculated the technical efficiency
scores of the Indian banks over the period 2007 to 2018. The study follows a non-parametric
approach of the data envelopment analysis (DEA) and Tobit regression models. The findings
demonstrate that the global financial crisis (GFC) has a significant negative impact on the
banks’ efficiency. Also, a slight improvement in the efficiency score was observed during the
NPL boom. In addition, foreign banks have performed better than their public and private
counterparts.

Abstract: Suicides of Agricultural Labourers rise by 18% in 2020 (NCRB report- 2021). India ranks
101 out of 116 countries in Global Hunger Index (Global Hunger Index 2021). Agriculture
is a completely unique zone due to its dependence on the weather and organic variables.
Therefore, in agriculture it's miles critical to pick out and examine dangers to Ensure that
decisions taken on the farm and in the marketplace provide excellent results. A variety of
risk assessment methodologies are accessible from a scientific standpoint.
Due to recent climate change, there has been a major increase in natural dangers that are
beyond human control. Natural hazards are key concerns in front of policymakers and
farmers because of their effects on agricultural productivity, production, and farm revenue.
As a result of natural disasters and market volatility, farmers' financial condition in the
age of technical and economic progress remains precarious. Agriculture is a dangerous
industry due to production instability and market hazards, which have a direct impact on
farmers' income levels.
The following figure shows percentage of agriculture households experienced a crop loss
within six months for various crops due to different reasons.

GARCH-Copula Model and its Application in Portfolio Optimization

Title: GARCH-Copula Model and its Application in Portfolio Optimization
Authors: Vishwakarma, Svatantra Kumar
Abstract: Every investor seeks to obtain a high return and face low risk, so he makes a trade-off
before investing. Investment can be in anything like stocks, bonds, utilities, education,
health, retirement, or something like this. Usually, people invested in single asset, so they
sometimes face high losses. In 1952, Harry Markowitz, an American Economist,
developed a theory called Portfolio Selection Theory. This theory says that investing in
a portfolio, i.e., investing in more than one asset simultaneously, can reduce the risk
compared to investing in only one asset. He supposed that investors are to be risk-averse;
hence he/she wants high returns and small risk. Markowitz used variance of return as the
measurement of risk and mean of return as the measurement of expected return by the
following Formula:
